Shkodran Mustafi has been left out of Arsenal’s matchday squad to face Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports, but he still doesn’t seem any closer to a transfer.

According to Twitter user Preciana Brown, Shkodran Mustafi wasn’t among those in the squad that arrived this morning ahead of the derby. Brown has a history of producing these kinds of squad lists, and they tend to be accurate, so it’s fair to say the defender won’t be involved.

Below is the full rumoured squad list for the match. Bear in mind two of the 20 listed players will drop out for the final 18:

Most likely, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli will be the two to drop out, as the youngest and most inexperienced. They should still be encouraged to be around the squad on a matchday as big as this though.

Despite Mustafi’s exclusion, it doesn’t seem he’s any closer to actually leaving the club. There were some rumours he might join AS Roma this summer, but Chris Smalling’s loan move to the Italian club appear to have ended those chances.

Mustafi and his agent just don’t seem to be pushing very hard to find him a new team. Normally the papers would be full of rumours the day before the European deadline, most of which were likely fabricated to generate buzz. Instead, there’s near-total silence.

Having the German available as an emergency backup wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, but it’s going to be bad for Arsenal and Mustafi if he doesn’t leave now, after being so clearly ostracised. There’s one day left for the situation to change.
