Lucas Torreira missed Uruguay’s second match of the international break against the USA on Wednesday morning, after picking up a knock in their opening game victory over Costa Rica.

Torreira started against Costa Rica in Uruguay’s first game, but he didn’t last the first 45 minutes. As we covered previously, local reports suggest the midfielder requested a substitution right before half-time ‘because of a knock’.

It wasn’t clear at the time exactly how serious the problem was, but it appears he’s suffering from some kind of ‘muscular discomfort’.

Worryingly, Torreira was then left out of the next match against the USA. He wasn’t on the bench, instead just listed as ‘not available’ in Uruguay’s update for the match.

The one positive sign is that the Arsenal man didn’t return to North London after the opening game. He remained with the Uruguay squad and joined in with their gym sessions, which suggests the issue is nothing too serious.

We’re going to have to wait for Torreira to return and undergo an assessment by the Arsenal medical team before we know more, but it certainly appears he’s a doubt for the trip to Watford this weekend.
