Darren Bent thinks Bernd Leno is developing well with Arsenal and turning into one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers.

Entering into his second season with Arsenal, Leno has already had plenty of ups and downs, but the fans have mostly taken to him very well so far.

Despite the occasional mistake, such as his parry in the lead up to Christian Eriksen’s goal in the recent North London derby, Leno has still been a net positive for the team overall.

That makes a change from some other Arsenal goalkeepers in recent years, whose efforts were generally considered a large part of the reason the club’s defensive record was so bad. Darren Bent thinks Leno is fitting in well with his new club.

“I think he’s developing well, I thought he was a good goalkeeper anyway but he’s turned into one of the best in the league at the minute,” Bent said.

“He’s really consistent. He’s good with his feet and is perfect for the way Arsenal want to play. They make me a bit nervous when they try to play out from the back but other than that they’re pretty good.”

Leno has played 90 minutes in all of Arsenal’s league games so far, though he’s expected to face competition from Emi Martinez when the other three competitions get underway in earnest.

That’s nothing new to the German goalkeeper though, who had to deal with competing against Petr Cech last season and Manuel Neuer and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen with his country.

It’s good to hear that Leno is earning plaudits from outside the Arsenal bubble, now he needs to maintain and build on his current reputation.
