Gabriel Martinelli pushed him close when he found the top corner from range against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night but for Arsenal fans there was only one possible Man of the Match – Calum Chambers.

I think it might be the first time since I joined Twitter in 2008 that I’ve tweeted something that was met with almost universal agreement, such was Calum Chambers display in the Carabao Cup at the Emirates.

Finishing the night with three assists and his own attempted volley well saved, Fulham’s Player of the Season, after his loan spell there last year, staked a real claim for a starting spot in Unai Emery’s side, especially given Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ dip in form in that position recently.

Chambers finished the game with five interceptions, four tackles, and 93% pass accuracy to go with his three assists.

Still only 24, the Englishman has only played 314 minutes this season and has a goal, three assists, and two cleansheets to his name. That’s a direct goal involvement rate of 78.5 despite being played as a full-back (Forest, Frankfurt, Villa) or centreback (Newcastle).
