Everton hadn’t conceded a goal in their opening two fixtures of the Premier League 2 season, continuing their strong defensive record from their title-winning 2018/19 campaign.

It was going to take something special to beat their backline, and that’s what Arsenal produced. Just five minutes into the match, Tyreece John-Jules inventively flicked in what looked like a fairly harmless cross. You can watch the goal below:

After a minor injury kept him from starting the opening game of the campaign, this was John-Jules’ second start and first goal of the new season.

He’s dropping a bit deeper in the current lineup, with Folarin Balogun ahead of him, but he’s still playing a key role for the side and evidently has the ability to get involved with the goals even in a less advanced position.

Some Arsenal fans drew comparisons between the finish and Aaron Ramsey’s against CSKA Moscow in 2017/18:

John-Jules will be hoping this is the first goal of many for him this season. With Eddie Nketiah on loan with Leeds, the striker has the opportunity to work his way into the senior side for Europa League and League Cup matches if he performs well enough.
