He might not have played a single minute this season, but following Nacho Monreal’s departure from Arsenal this weekend, Mesut Ozil has now made more Premier League appearances than any other member of the Arsenal squad.

What. A. Stat.

If you asked anyone they’d tell you Mesut Ozil is always injured, sick or benched, but it seems not everybody has been paying full attention to the German when he’s actually around.

That’s often been the case with Mesut.

When you watch him live it’s a totally different experience than the one you get when you watch him on the TV and no doubt part of the reason why Arsenal match-going fans love him so much.

You can’t really appreciate the way he glides around the pitch via Sky Sports.

Arsenal announced Nacho Monreal’s departure for Real Sociedad on Saturday, just shortly before they announced Mohamed Elneny’s departure on loan to Besiktas. With the clearout that’s been happening since Unai Emery and Raul Sanllehi took over, there have been a hell of a lot of appearances shipped out.

Petr Cech, Kieran Gibbs, Per Mertesacker, Gabriel, Laurent Koscielny, Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, David Ospina, Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Iwobi, Santi Cazorla, Mathieu Debuchy, Danny Welbeck, Carl Jenkinson, Stephan Lichtsteiner, and Francis Coquelin have all left since the summer of 2017 when the clearout really first started.

Nacho had totaled up 187 appearances for Arsenal in the Premier League before he was sold for pennies.

Mesut Ozil currently has 166.

Ozil is also the longest serving member of the first-team squad.

I’m refusing to count Emi Martinez because that’s just stupid as he’s spent most of his time on loan.
