Jordi was unable to prevent VfL Bochum 1848 from sliding to a second defeat in three league games on Friday, losing 1-0 away at Hamburg SV.

Having been left on the bench for the first time in the league this season, with Simon Lorenz taking Osei-Tutu’s place at right-back, the 20-year-old was only able to make an impact on the pitch in the 75th minute, when he came on in VfL’s final substitute after an injury to ex-Crystal Palace player Lee Chung Young.

Deployed at right-wing instead of his usual right-back, Jordi made promising runs and showed his exceptional pace in retrieving wayward passes from the heavy legs of his teammates.

He was well marshalled by Hamburg’s left-back Leibold, who was superb throughout, limiting Jordi’s attacking threat until the final whistle.

Despite the disappointing result, Jordi and ex-Arsenal player Xavier Amaechi were seen hugging and chatting amicably on the pitch after the game. Jordi will hope to regain his place in the starting side in the home match against Wiesbaden next Saturday.
