After a tough start to the season with Bochum, Osei-Tutu had dropped to the bench for the match on Saturday. In his absence, Bochum fell behind 3-0 by half-time, though they did manage to pull one back shortly after the break.

At 3-1 down, Osei-Tutu came on for the final 24 minutes. He scored a lovely volley in the 87th to inspire a late Bochum push, resulting in a last-minute equaliser for the home side.

VfL Bochum’s English Twitter account admin gave us a first-hand report on the full-back’s performance:

“Jordi Osei-Tutu announced himself in the 2.Bundesliga in stunning style as he came off the bench to score a crucial goal in helping VfL Bochum to a last-gasp 3-3 home draw against SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

“Having seen his team perform dismally in the first half, the home side 3-0 down at half-time against newly-promoted minnows Wehen, Jordi was introduced into the game in the 66th minute, replacing Vitaly Janelt, and was deployed on the right-wing, like last week, to add attacking verve to a thus-far limp Bochum side.

“With the score already 1-3, Jordi looked to make an immediate impact with direct, tricky runs at his opposite number, with VfL fans audibly delighting in the renewed intensity that the no.6 had instilled in the team.

“For the next twenty minutes, he weaved his way many times to the by-line, with crosses troubling the away side without serving up any clear cut opportunities for VfL.

“With the score still 3-1 with 3 minutes to go, Jordi saw Silvère Ganvoula knock on a Danny Blum cross from the left, the ball finding the 20-year-old 16 yards out. Without steadying himself, the Arsenal loanee volleyed a left-foot shot sidefooted into the top left-hand corner, with the coolness of a player many years Osei-Tutu’s senior.

“A first senior goal for Jordi sparked life back into Bochum, who won a penalty two minutes later. Ganvoula converted to rescue a point for the boys in blue. Osei-Tutu, with that performance, has made a big statement to both the fans and his coaches, and you wouldn’t bet against him retaking a place in the starting eleven for next week’s tough away fixture against VfB Stuttgart.”

It’s great to hear that Osei-Tutu is having a positive impact and pushing for starts again, after his hopefully-temporary absence from the starting lineup.

Bochum’s head coach Robin Dutt stated in a recent press conference that he wasn’t writing Osei-Tutu off, and it was just about seeing whether the player had the character to come back or not. A goal to help his team secure a late point is a good start.
