AS Roma are interested in Shkodran Mustafi, according to Di Marzio, with Arsenal reportedly demanding a €27m transfer fee.

Di Marzio write that Mustafi is on Roma’s shortlist of potential signings before the end of the European transfer window, but the main stumbling block to his move is the price.

Sky Sports’ Marc Behrenbeck reported on Friday that Mustafi should leave Arsenal this summer, something Unai Emery also publicly stated in Thursday’s press conference. However, Arsenal want €27m for his departure, which makes things problematic.

Mustafi’s father spoke to Sky about the possibility of a move, saying: “Shkodran had a great time at Arsenal so far. We still have a two-year contract and we can also imagine staying in London. However, it is probably most sensible for both parties to work on a transfer.”

Mustafi has missed out on Arsenal’s first few matchday squads of the Premier League season, as Emery puts faith in Sokratis Papastathopoulos, David Luiz and Calum Chambers over him.

Rob Holding is almost on the brink of a comeback, having played 90 minutes for the u23s against Everton on Friday. He’ll likely return in time for the Europa League group stage after the international break next month, further limiting Mustafi’s opportunities.

The fact that Emery and Mustafi’s camp are going public that he’s looking for a move suggests they’re trying to force it through at this stage. With any luck, that means there will be significant progress over the next week on his future.
