Bouanga joined Saint-Etienne over the summer, following in the footsteps of his Gabon teammate Aubameyang, who previously spent time with the Ligue 1 side.

In fact, Bouanga even admitted over the summer that Aubameyang had influenced his decision to move to the club, giving him some advice ahead of the transfer.

The 24-year-old scored his first competitive goal for Saint-Etienne over the weekend, netting a late equaliser against Brest. He celebrated with Aubameyang’s trademark flip, explaining afterwards that he’d promised the Arsenal man he’d do so.

“My celebration was a tribute to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,” Bouanga said. “I already knew how to make that jump, so I sent him a message on Instagram telling him that I would do it if I’d score.”

It’s great to see Aubameyang still has a lot of time for the club he left six years ago, and that the brief time he spent there is still inspiring the upcoming generation of footballers.

If he could have the same kind of impact at Arsenal in the future, motivating players with his legacy at the club and advising them to join through behind-the-scenes talks, he’ll make himself even more popular with supporters than he is already.
