Dani Ceballos has received a call-up to return to Spain’s senior national team, after playing for the u21s over the summer.

On Friday morning, Spain announced their 23-man squad for the upcoming fixtures against Romania and Faroe Islands in September, and Ceballos was among the players listed.

Ceballos first made his debut for the Spanish senior side late last year, playing 90 minutes in a 6-0 win over Croatia. He remained with the team for the next couple of international breaks, before dropping back to the u21s for the European Championships.

After leading the u21 side to the title in Italy, it should be no surprise to see Ceballos back with the main squad. The 23-year-old is no longer eligible for the u21s now anyway.

Ceballos has had a mixed start to life with Arsenal. After a decent debut cameo against Newcastle, he was the clear man of the match against Burnley providing two assists, before struggling away to Liverpool.

It’s early days in the midfielder’s loan spell in England, but he’s evidently done enough so far to keep getting opportunities with his country. A return to his best against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend would help him push for a start or two with Spain over the break.
