Last week, according to Gianluigi Longari, ‘Sportitalia’s market expert’, Arsenal offered Mauro Icardi a contract worth €10m-a-season but the player is not interested in playing in the Premier League.

This is all getting a bit ridiculous now.

As reported by TuttoJuve.com, Longari said, “Last week there was a concrete interest from Arsenal for Mauro Icardi.

“The Gunners would have been willing to present the player with a proposal of engagement from 10 million euros per season.

“Icardi, however, has decided not to take it into consideration because he does not want to play in the Premier League, because he claims that it is not his football, for his own personal reasons.

“The wall against the wall continues and Inter has already told Icardi that he will not be included in the league list and in the Champions League list for next season.”

Inter have told the player he will ‘never play for the club again’ in a dispute that seems only to be getting worse with his agent and wife now threatening legal action.

“Icardi was told nothing has changed from the beginning of the summer, there is no chance of rebuilding bridges and there is no possible future for him at Inter,” SempreInter.com write.

They also state that Icardi has been told he has two offers on the table – from Roma and Napoli – and he should strongly consider taking one of them.

Arsenal were linked heavily with a move for Icardi back in the summer of 2016 in what was a relentless saga. In the end, he signed a new deal at Inter and it looked like Arsenal had just been used to help make that happen.

Given how Arsenal have behaved in this transfer window so far only a fool would rule anything out. Unlike under Arsene Wenger, when we could write the transfer script from memory, it’s hard to know what we should expect as we head into the final week of silly season.

This seems particularly silly.

Then again, so did £72m for Nicolas Pepe when it was first rumoured too…
