Arsenal’s u18 side won’t be too happy about suffering a home defeat through a 90th-minute goal by Callum Watts, particularly as they had the majority of the chances. The Gunners took 18 shots to Southampton’s 11, but only four were on target.

There was one reason to be positive on the day though. In the absence of Ben Cottrell through injury, and with star striker Sam Greenwood also picking up a knock last weekend against West Ham, there were a couple of squad spots available against Southampton.

Malcolm Ebiowei, who had scored two goals and assisted three in his last two appearances for the Arsenal u16s, made the bench for the fixture. He came on for the final 15 minutes in the second half, replacing Catalin Cirjan to make his debut.

Ebiowei has also recently received a call-up for a training camp with the Nigeria u17s, though it’s unclear whether he’ll accept it at this stage.

Either way, he’s made another step forward in his development with Arsenal today, which is great to see.

Arsenal u16s won 4-1 against Southampton on Saturday to keep their winning run going. Omari Hutchinson starred with a couple of goals and an assist, whilst Khayon Edwards also provided an assist to make it two goals and two assists in his last three games.

Marcelo Flores scored one and assisted one, Charles Sagoe Jr. got on the scoresheet as well, and Edu’s son Luigi Gaspar also featured.
