After his brief spell on loan with Reading last season, Martinez has finally earned a proper chance in goal with Arsenal.

Bernd Leno is still the club’s number one for now, but Martinez is set to compete with him for the position and he’s getting a chance to prove himself in pre-season. He made a few good saves on Thursday, mostly from Serge Gnabry.

The goalkeeper also took part in a fan signing session that day, and one supporter couldn’t resist getting Martinez involved in a fan-favourite chant:

One of the benefits of bringing Martinez back into the fold this season is that he’s already spent so much time with the club. He knows the staff, he knows the players, and he clearly has a good relationship with the fans – as evidenced above.

All that makes it a little bit easier for him to step out onto the pitch on matchdays and perform. He’s likely to get another chance to do so against Fiorentina on Saturday night.
