Arsenal have sold Xavier Amaechi to Hamburger SV for a fee of around €2.5m plus add-ons and a sell-on clause.

Arsenal confirmed Amaechi’s departure on a permanent deal on Sunday morning. Although they didn’t reveal too many of the details, the BBC had already confirmed it would be a four-year contract with the German club, for a fee of over €2.5m.

Arsenal have a sell-on clause, as mentioned, but no buy-back option. Amaechi turned down approaches from Barcelona, Bayern, Inter, Nice, Hertha Berlin, as well as a number of sides across the divisions in England before signing for Hamburg.

The tipping point was reportedly convincing Amaechi he would be a regular starter with Hamburg this season, something the other clubs clearly couldn’t promise.

Reports in Germany suggested Amaechi would have his medical on Monday, but for once it seems the media were too conservative with their estimate.

The winger has instead arrived in time for Hamburg’s friendly against SV Darmstadt 98 at 13:30 on Sunday, though it’ll likely come too soon for an appearance on the pitch. Good luck to him with his new adventure in Germany!
