Leicester City have completed the signing of Arsenal right-back Vontae Daley-Campbell on a free, after the youngster’s deal with the Gunners expired this summer.

Leicester announced on their club website that they’d completed the signing of Daley-Campbell on Friday, along with George Hirst and Ali Reghba. They confirmed the Arsenal right-back would join pre-season training this week ahead of the new season.

The young right-back was on a scholarship deal with the Gunners last season, and he had a professional contract offer on the table, but he decided to run it down and leave instead. The 18-year-old confirmed his departure earlier this month.

Daley-Campbell also reportedly turned down RB Leipzig for Leicester. Given the clubs he’s rejected, you have to imagine Leicester must’ve laid out a plan for Daley-Campbell’s development.

It’s understandable that he might feel he has a better chance of breaking into a Leicester team than with Arsenal, though he has just as much competition for places right now. Leicester have a really strong first-team right-back in Ricardo Pereira, and they’ve also signed James Justin for the position this summer.

Pre-season could be the right-back’s opportunity to prove himself and fast-track his progression, assuming he does join the first team at any stage.
