Manchester City have activated their £5.3m buyback clause in Angelino’s contract, striking another from Arsenal’s shopping list.

Arsenal are in the market for a few defenders and although there has been little in the press about their supposed interest in Angelino, the Daily Mail report on Thursday that the club were indeed looking at the 22-year-old.

It doesn’t matter now as he’s on his way from PSV to City ahead of the new season for £5.3m, an absolute bargain in this market that has already seen City break their own transfer record for the third time in 18 months by paying £62.8m for Rodri.

Angelino signed for PSV from City just last summer for £4.95m and although it’s being reported in the press that he cost £5.3m, Transfermarkt report his fee as more than double that at £10.8m.

The Manchester Evening News also reports that the fee is £5.3m according to an unnamed source but PSV claim the fee will rise upwards of £10m.
