FC Lorient President Loic Fery has confirmed that they’re still in talks with at least one English club over the signing of Alexis Claude-Maurice.

Speaking to French outlet Le Telegramme (via GFFN), Fery said the following about 21-year-old winger Claude-Maurice:

“The club told him that he could leave this summer if everyone was satisfied. Alexis will have the choice between continuing to progress here or to go to clubs who have an agreement with FC Lorient. We don’t have any agreements at the moment.

“We have received 4 offers. One offer from Germany which is 6 weeks old, well under the value of the player. Two English offers, including one that was not a permanent transfer, and one offer from France.

“We are still in discussions with two of these four clubs and there are as well other teams.”

Let’s break this down. Firstly, the German club that bid way under the value of the player are most likely to be Bundesliga side Gladbach. They were heavily linked earlier in the window, and the player himself even expressed a desire to join them.

If Fery’s comments are correct, two other clubs have submitted offers closer to Claude-Maurice’s valuation, and one a loan bid. The three clubs involved are two English and one French. Since Lorient are still in talks with two clubs, one of them must be from England.

Arsenal and West Ham United were both linked with a move for Claude-Maurice earlier this summer, so it’s possible one or both of them are involved.

The Arsenal rumours have completely died down in recent weeks though, so this is really just one to keep an eye on in case of any future developments.
