Laurent Koscielny is close to an agreement with Stade Rennais over a summer transfer, according to reports.

Manu Lonjon of Yahoo Sport France reports that the club leading the race for Koscielny’s signature at this stage is Rennes. The club and Arsenal’s captain are reportedly close to an agreement.

Lonjon has been a pretty reliable source of Arsenal news this summer in terms of the William Saliba deal, so it’s worth paying some heed to his claims.

Koscielny has refused to go on Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the USA, as confirmed on Thursday morning. He wants the Gunners to terminate his contract a year early, something the club have refused to do.

There’s no suggestion Rennes are anywhere near convincing Arsenal to sell. David Ornstein reports that Arsenal have no transfer offers for the player, though the BBC journalist adds that Koscielny does have offers if he succeeds in cancelling his contract.

Bordeaux have also reportedly offered Koscielny a three-year deal (via BBC), but again that appears to be without any agreement with Arsenal.

When one of the Ligue 1 clubs comes back with an offer that actually fulfils the requirements for signing a player under contract, maybe then we can get somewhere.
