As we reported last Friday, Iliev has been loaned to Slovakia for the coming season, earning a season-long spell with first division side ŠKF Sereď.

On Saturday – the day Arsenal announced the move – Iliev was already straight into the action, starting a friendly against Hungarian side Gyirmót FC Győr.

The 24-year-old kept a clean sheet in the opening 45 minutes before coming off for the second half. At the other end, striker Dino Špehar scored once in each half to achieve a 2-0 victory.

This was the first senior match of Iliev’s career so far, competitive or otherwise.

The goalkeeper has never been on loan before, largely thanks to an extended period of injury earlier in his career, and the furthest he’s ever got with Arsenal is playing in pre-season XIs that didn’t even technically qualify as first-team.

Slovakia aren’t quite on the same timetable as England, so that was actually the end of their pre-season. Iliev’s next chance to feature will be in the first competitive match of the new campaign, a game against FC Spartak Trnava at 18:00 BST on 21st July.
