According to a report in 24.ae, security forces in the Western province of Gharbia are working to discover the identity of the body after they were contacted by Elneny’s father. Their information comes from the El-Watan newspaper.

It is not clear yet if a crime has been committed but a criminal investigation team has been set up under the supervision of Major General Saeed al-Shukri, director of the Criminal Investigation Department. An autopsy and burial have been ordered.

Elneny is still on holiday after the Africa Cup of Nations this summer which took place in Egypt.

This news comes in what has been a bit of a bananas week for Arsenal players.

Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac were, of course, confronted by knife-wielding attacker before Sead ‘Bruce Banner’ Kolasinac chased them off single-handedly.

Arsenal players will no doubt be hoping things are less dramatic this weekend as the Emirates Cup returns and the Gunners play in front of a home crowd for the first time in this pre-season.
