If you’ve been paying attention so far this summer, Arsenal have offered £40m for Wilfried Zaha, €30m for Malcom, €30m for William Saliba, £15m for Kieran Tierney, bought Gabriel Martinelli for £6.7m, and bid for Nabil Fekir all while having only £40m to play with so of course they’re offering £50m for Harry Maguire.

Yes, that’s right. The S*n want you to believe that Arsenal, who have hardly any money, have offered more than they have available for a player priced at almost double their offer.

Oh yeah, and Manchester United have already had a £70m bid rejected while Manchester City have offered £65m + £5m in bonuses.

Leicester, for their part, want £85m-£90m depending on where you do your reading.

So yes, of course Arsenal have told Leicester they’ll go to £50m – and not a penny more – because why wouldn’t they?

Why wouldn’t they think they’d be able to land another overpriced Englishman for significantly less than other sides have offered?

They wouldn’t.

But that makes crap headlines.
