Bristol City, Augsburg and Charlton Athletic are all interested in taking Eddie Nketiah on loan next season, according to reports.

Football.London report that Nketiah has the two Championship clubs and one Bundesliga club ready to make an offer for his services next season.

The player himself recently stated that his preference is to play for Arsenal in the coming campaign, but I’m not sure this would be in his best interest.

Even though Danny Welbeck started last season as Arsenal’s third-choice striker, that only lasted until his serious ankle injury in November. From then on, Nketiah was third-choice, yet he still only managed nine first-team appearances in that period (three starts).

Granted, there may be a few more opportunities if Nketiah is the third choice from the start.

He could play in the early rounds of the EFL Cup and be a regular starter in the Europa League group stage. The FA Cup may provide a kinder draw than playing Manchester United in Arsenal’s second game too.

Even if Arsenal progress in the EFL Cup and Nketiah plays every non-PL fixture, that’s still only a total of nine games between August and the start of January when the window reopens.

Nketiah is a confident young man, who will back his ability to impress sufficiently in those nine games to make himself a regular feature in the league as well. From an outside perspective, however, the safer bet would be taking up one of his loan options.

As for what Arsenal would do with the position if they sent Nketiah on loan, Tyreece John-Jules is the obvious choice to step up.

The 18-year-old striker has been hugely impressive since his friendly first-team debut against Al-Nasr in March, scoring seven goals and assisting two in eight games from that day onwards.

John-Jules has earned an opportunity to play with the first team in pre-season, and if he impresses, he could easily fill the gap in the lower-profile games whilst Nketiah goes on loan.
