Reiss Nelson and Krystian Bielik have suffered early eliminations from the u21 European Championship, whilst Matteo Guendouzi’s chances of progression to the knockout stages remain strong.

Nelson hasn’t even had a chance to take to the pitch for the England u21s in the group stage so far, and it’s already too late for him to make a difference.

After losing their first two matches against France and Romania, England are six points behind second place with one game left. Hopefully, Nelson will at least be able to start that final match.

Meanwhile, Poland and Bielik seemed to be on track for the semi-finals after wins over Italy and Belgium, but they crashed back down to earth with a 5-0 defeat to Spain. Despite being level on points with Italy and Spain, they now have no hope of progressing.

Nonetheless, Bielik has had a positive tournament individually, scoring twice. He and Nelson will return home next week and begin their holidays before pre-season next month, though they likely won’t be ready in time for Arsenal’s opening friendlies.

France and Guendouzi’s participation in the semi-final isn’t guaranteed just yet, but it’s very likely. A draw against Romania would be enough to take them through as the best second-placed team, and a win would ensure top spot.

Guendouzi has only made one 17-minute substitute appearance so far, but he’ll be hoping for a start in the final group match.
