Arsenal are reportedly interested in a move for 18-year-old Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba this summer with him named as a ‘top target’.

Central defence is clearly an area Arsenal need to strengthen in the current window, and all reports coming out of the club suggest they plan to do just that.

Previous reports have valued Saliba at around £25m, though the majority of previous articles linked Manchester United with a move, rather than Arsenal or even Manchester City.

The young centre-back is very highly rated in France, so it isn’t a surprise to see other top Premier League clubs after him.

The problem is with City’s apparent interest. As well as having the funds to outbid Arsenal, they are reportedly offering to loan him back to the Ligue 1 side for the next year.

Saliba’s agent, Djibril Niang, was spotted having dinner in the city with a report from France writing, “Manchester is not necessarily the city you go to when you want to visit England,” in terms of a holiday.”
