It had been rumoured for some time that Petr Cech would return to Stamford Bridge when he hung up his boots at the end of his time with Arsenal.

Although the 37-year-old did his best to play down reports that he had agreed to the new role, it was not hard to understand why he would go back there. He didn’t really want to leave in the first place and would have happily stayed had he been guaranteed more football.

Ever the professional, Cech managed to cross London without annoying fans of either team and now he’s away back the other way I can’t see that being any different.

Cech said, “I feel very privileged to have this opportunity to join Chelsea again and help create the best possible high level performance environment to continue the success the club has had over the past 15 years.

“I’m looking forward to the new challenge and hope I can use all of my football knowledge and experience to help the team achieve even more success in the future.”

Director, Marina Granovskaia, whom Cech will work alongside as well as helping out with the first team, backroom staff and helping to develop ‘strategy and performance’, added: “We are delighted to welcome Petr back home to Chelsea. During his playing career here he was one of the most dedicated, successful and thoughtful professionals we have ever had.

“We always hoped that when Petr was ready to retire we would see him back at Chelsea FC and we are thrilled to add his expertise and knowledge of the game to the technical staff.”

Petr Cech served Arsenal well but he was always a Chelsea man and we wish him well in his new career.

Expect a video from him soon:
