If Arsenal were interested in signing Neto then they’ve missed out as he looks set for Barcelona.

Arsenal had been linked with a move for Valencia’s shot-stopper but it seems as if he will be heading to the Nou Camp as back-up to Ter Stegen with Cillessen going the other way.

At the start of June, Spanish outlet AS reported that Arsenal were one of Neto’s suitors this summer, though they added that the Gunners aren’t the only ones after the goalkeeper. Obviously.

Arsenal were reportedly offering a substantial improvement in the 29-year-old’s contract to join and compete with Bernd Leno following Petr Cech’s retirement.

Neto played 34 La Liga games last season, keeping 10 clean sheets and conceding an average of one goal per game.

He also played in eight Europa League games, conceding 10 goals, seven of which were scored by Arsenal. It’s relatively surprising he ended up on the Gunners’ shortlist despite that tie, but on their day Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can make most goalkeepers look bad.

Barcelona are also moving closer to sealing a €25m deal with Everton for the transfer of Andre Gomes with reports in Spain (see above) claiming all that is left is for a few details to be sorted out before the move can be made official.

Denis Suarez, meanwhile, is up for sale for just €17m but it seems as if his loan at Arsenal, which went so badly because of his injury, is putting some clubs off.

Barcelona would like to get as many deals as possible sorted before June 30 when their accounting year comes to a close.
