Granit Xhaka has become the latest transfer target of Atletico Madrid, according to reports in Spain, though the possible £112.9m signing of Joao Felix could make things difficult.

AS report that Xhaka has recently become a target for Atletico, as the departure of 23-year-old Rodri starts to look more certain. Both Manchester City and Bayern Munich are reportedly willing to pay Rodri’s release clause.

Atletico’s pursuit of Joao Felix could prove a spanner in the works though. The La Liga side have made an offer of £112.9m for the Benfica 19-year-old, albeit in instalments, so whether they’d have the money for a major bid for Xhaka as well seems unlikely.

The sale of Rodri would reportedly bring in £62.5m, so that would offset the cost somewhat.

Still, you’d expect Arsenal to want at least the £35m they paid for Xhaka, as a 26-year-old captain of club and country with four years on his contract. That would mean a net spend of at least £85.4m for Atletico if they sign Felix as well.

Arsenal might consider the sale of Xhaka this summer, purely on the basis that missing out on the Champions League has left them needing to supplement their transfer budget to go for their main targets.

For the time being, however, this is mostly just speculation.
