Nicolo Schira of La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Martinelli will be Arsenal’s first purchase of the summer, with the aid of reported incoming technical director and former Gunner Edu. Schira claims Arsenal have agreed a deal for the forward to arrive this summer, once he turns 18.

Martinelli’s birthday is on 18th June, so we can expect some movement on the deal in a couple of weeks’ time. Edu’s official arrival will have to wait a bit longer, since he’s with Brazil for Copa America until 7th July.

There have already been plenty of reports suggesting Martinelli will join Arsenal this summer. UOL claimed Arsenal had an agreement with Ituano in April, and it just depended on his Italian passport being processed. Meanwhile, another report suggested the deal would be done for €7.5m.

Martinelli caught the eye in this year’s Campeonato Paulista, as he scored six goals and assisted three in 14 appearances. That put him just one goal off the competition’s top scorer and two assists off the top assist provider, despite his young age.

It’s a different prospect playing at the top level in English football, but Arsenal’s scouting team are clearly convinced he has the raw talent.
