Arsenal have held talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a summer move for Thomas Meunier this summer, but the two clubs are still £10m apart in their valuations, according to reports.

The Daily Mail write that Arsenal are in talks with PSG for the 27-year-old right-back, who can also play right-midfield. Unai Emery is pushing the move for the Belgian international, but there are fears it could fall through over their failure to qualify for the Champions League and a £10m difference between the clubs’ valuations of the player.

The Gunners are reportedly looking to seal the deal for around £20m, whilst PSG want £30m, despite the fact they’re clearly keen to sell. Arsenal obviously don’t want to pay that much, given it would represent two-thirds of their entire reported summer budget of £45m.

Meunier’s ability to play both at right-back and further forward on the right might be what’s convinced Emery to push for the move. As it stands, with Hector Bellerin out, Arsenal have been relying on Ainsley Maitland-Niles playing out of position, so Meunier could fill in at right-back for the time being.

Then, when Bellerin returns, it’s possible they’d play alongside each other on the right-hand side, with Meunier taking up a more advanced position.

If that’s not the case, and the two players are both going to compete for one right-back spot, then spending so much of the summer budget on Meunier would be ill-advised.
