An Arsenal deal for Paris Saint-Germain right-back Thomas Meunier is looking increasingly unlikely, according to reports in Belgium.

Belgian outlet VoetbalNieuws that despite Arsenal’s links to Meunier in recent weeks, a transfer ‘seems unlikely’ at this stage.

The Gunners look set to rely on their existing options for the new campaign, with Hector Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland-Niles mentioned. Instead of signing a right-back like Meunier, Arsenal plan to invest their funds in different positions entirely.

Reports this week had suggested that Arsenal had already placed a €25m (£22.1m) bid for the 27-year-old, but PSG were demanding as much as £30m. It seemed pretty clear at the time that these demands would be too great, considering the Gunners’ budget, and so it’s proving.

Meunier made 31 appearances for PSG this season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists. Recent quotes from the player himself suggest he would happily remain in the French capital, though he only has a year left on his contract as it stands.
