L’Equipe (via GFFN) report that Arsenal have become the latest team to make an approach for Veretout. The 26-year-old has a deal lasting until 2021, and he’s coming off the back of a strong season in Serie A.

The former Aston Villa midfielder has been heavily linked with a number of other clubs. He’s reportedly in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Napoli, and he has been for several weeks now.

Plus, AS Roma and Sevilla have also approached his representatives to enquire over how much a deal would cost.

The problem Arsenal face is that Veretout wants to play in the Champions League, something Napoli can offer and the Gunners can’t.

Veretout made 37 appearances for Fiorentina this season as they reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals, but just narrowly avoiding relegation in the league. The midfielder scored five goals and assisted four, mostly playing a defensive role.

The Fiorentina man was great at creating and finishing chances but struggled with the referees. He picked up 13 yellow cards and one red over the season, earning three separate suspensions.
