Adrien Rabiot has performed a spectacular U-turn and suggested to Paris Saint-Germain that he could extend his contract with the club, according to reports.

For those who haven’t followed the story, Rabiot fell out with PSG late last year over his desire to leave the club, and he wasn’t included in their squad for the rest of the season.

At the time, the 24-year-old seemed to be closing in on a move to Barcelona, which apparently fell through after the La Liga side signed Frenkie de Jong.

After that, the midfielder was linked with a number of other top clubs, from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City in England, to Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Juventus from abroad. With his PSG contract now in its final month, Rabiot seemed certain to leave.

French journalist Romain Molina is now reporting another twist in the saga, however. He claims that Rabiot is now reaching out to PSG to try and extend his contract to remain with the club.

Perhaps Rabiot realised that he wasn’t going to find a club willing to pay his reported high wages and large signing-on fee whilst also competing at the very top level. Maybe he really had his heart set on Barcelona and no other destination compares.

Whatever Rabiot’s reasoning, it’s going to be interesting to see how PSG respond after their extended stand-off with the player.
