Unai Emery was spotted attending Atletico Madrid’s final game of the season against Levante this weekend, amid rumours of Arsenal interest in Thomas Partey.

Partey has been linked with Arsenal for a couple of months now, after a source close to the player claimed he would be interested in a Premier League move. Those links resurfaced again this week, as the player’s agent confirmed (via The S*n) that his client has a release clause in his contract.

“There’s a €50m (£43.5m) release clause in his contract, a figure that’s cheap for a player like Thomas,” Daniel Jimenez said. “We’ll wait for the season to end and then we’ll see.”

Now the links are set to intensify even further, as Unai Emery was spotted at Atletico’s final match of the season against Levante.

Of course, it’s not guaranteed Emery was there to watch Partey. The Ghanaian international was just one of the 22 starters involved in the fixture, after all. It’s not as if defensive midfield is an area where Arsenal are lacking numbers either, so it would probably require a player to leave the club and make way.

Nonetheless, it’s interesting that the Spanish head coach chose to travel all the way out to Spain to watch a game, particularly with the Europa League final coming up. You’d think he’d only take the time to do that if he had someone in mind to evaluate. We’ll have to wait and see.
