Mesut Ozil’s agent has confirmed the player will remain with the club this summer, echoing what the German said recently, and has added he will stay until ‘at least’ 2021, hinting that the player could stay beyond his current deal.

Those who thought Mesut Ozil’s bumper contract with Arsenal until 2021 would see an end to speculation about his future were wrong. It hasn’t stopped and, this season, has intensified with reports the club want to sell him, he wants to leave and loads of other unsubstantiated rambling.

“Rumours will always persist, there is no doubt about that,” Dr Erkut Sogut told Turkish Football in an interview that is well worth reading for some Ozil stories.

“But one thing I can guarantee is Mesut’s loyalty. His mind is focused on Arsenal, and Arsenal only.

“Mesut bleeds Arsenal red, and respecting his contract is a certainty.

“He’ll be staying at Arsenal until at least 2021, and the fans need not to worry about the gossip that may come this summer.

“He has found a place he feels welcome and believes he has a lot more to give.”

Ozil will be 32-and-a-half when his contract with Arsenal expires and, if the club want to keep him, he would no doubt have to agree to reduced terms.

Raul Sanllehi has stated previously that contract negotiations with players will begin when they have two years remaining on their contracts and they will be sold rather than risk losing them for free.

Whatever is likely to happen with Ozil, we should find out sooner rather than later.
