Bild report that Arsenal are interested in Schubert because Petr Cech (retiring) and Deyan Iliev (out of contract) are set to leave the club this summer. Even with the potential return of Emi Martinez, that still leaves the Gunners needing to rely on 17-year-old Arthur Okonkwo as their third-choice goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Schubert is a free agent, after running down his deal with Dresden. He’s certainly going to leave the club this summer, though he responded “no comment” when asked exactly where he was going.

Schubert made 43 appearances for the second-tier German club, keeping 12 clean sheets. His performances earned him call-ups to every German national side up to the u21s, so he’s clearly thought of highly in his home country.

Whether Schubert would accept being the third choice at Arsenal remains to be seen. If he wants to compete for a starting spot, that would surely force Emi Martinez out the door, given the Argentine has made it clear he’ll only stay if he has the opportunity to become number one himself.

With the transfer window already open and no transfer fee to negotiate, this deal could move quickly, if it happens. One to keep an eye on.
