Arsenal are hoping to beat Tottenham to the signing of Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek according to a report in the Times but they’ll probably have to keep on hoping.

Donny van de Beek has been linked with a move to Arsenal but given that he was last reported to be on his way to Tottenham for £45m I’m not sure Arsenal stand a chance.

There is, of course, the small matter of Spurs being better than Arsenal at the minute and also in the Champions League.

But, on top of that, £45m is rumoured to be Arsenal’s entire summer budget because they’re morons.

Arsenal desperately need a midfielder to replace Aaron Ramsey for whom they will get nothing.

They also need a defender or three and could probably do with a goalkeeper to replace Petr Cech.

It, therefore, seems unlikely Arsenal will be spending anything like £45m on a single player.
