Konstantinos Mavropanos returned to fitness three months ago but has yet to appear in the Arsenal first team despite the disaster that is Shkodran Mustafi being picked, so what’s going on?

Nobody thinks Mavropanos is the answer to Arsenal’s defensive woes nor the finished article when it comes to being a reliable centreback, but you do have to wonder if Unai Emery doesn’t like what he’s seen from the Greek.

Otherwise, why isn’t he using him?

So far, Mavropanos has played just 11 minutes for the first team in the Premier League while he’s played 161 minutes in Premier League 2.

Given that he’s not even playing for the u23s you have to wonder if he is injured again?

He’s not listed as injured on Arsenal.com

The last update from Unai Emery about the player came in January, after the defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup but before the game against Cardiff, when he said, “Mavropanos has been working with us for the past month and has playing with the under-23s. He is in the squad with the possibility to play.”

Mavropanos was indeed on the bench for the 2-1 win over Cardiff on 29 January, and he got his 11 minutes in the next league match against Manchester City. He was back on the bench against Huddersfield in the next league game.

But, since that match, Arsenal have played six league games and three Europa League ties where Mavropanos has not even been on the bench.

Injured or unfancied? Your guess is as good as mine….the smart money is probably on injured again, but who can tell?
