Former Gunner Josh Dasilva has finally started to make an impact on the Brentford first-team in recent weeks, and his performance against Millwall on Friday was his best yet.

Dasilva was a key part of Arsenal’s Premier League 2-winning team in 2017/18, controlling matches from deep in midfield and captaining the side on a number of occasions. The Gunners were keen to keep the England u20 international, offering him a new contract, but he turned it down for regular first-team football.

Brentford picked Dasilva up on a free transfer, paying no more than a training compensation fee and tying the youngster down to a four-year deal. However, senior opportunities didn’t come as quickly as the 20-year-old might’ve liked.

Up until late March, Dasilva had only made two starts for his new club in almost eight months, both in the FA Cup. Then, he got his first league start against Wigan on March 30th, and he’s made another three starts in the three weeks since then.

Most recently, he was Brentford’s man-of-the-match against Millwall and scored this goal:

It was a bit of a surprise not to see Dasilva more heavily involved earlier on in the season, after he’d performed so excellently for the u23s in 2017/18 and even made his first-team debut under Arsene Wenger. Perhaps he just needed a bit of time to adapt to senior football.

Hopefully, Dasilva can get a run going in the starting lineup for the Championship team now.
