UEFA are planning to support Arsenal attempts to obtain a visa for Henrikh Mkhitaryan if the Gunners reach the Europa League final, despite the Armenia star facing a ban from the country.

As it stands, Mkhitaryan is prohibited from playing in Azerbaijan, due to the longstanding conflict between the country and his home nation Armenia over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh territory. When Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal previously travelled to Azerbaijan, they decided to leave Mkhitaryan at home over security concerns.

If the Gunners make the Europa League final, however, they’ll have to return to Baku, and Mkhitaryan will face the same problem again. According to the Mirror, UEFA are set to support Arsenal’s attempt to obtain a visa for the 30-year-old if they reach the final, which is good news.

On the other hand, similar things were said before both Dortmund and Arsenal’s trips to the country in the past. Even if UEFA do manage to help the Gunners to secure a visa to enter the country, there’s no guarantee the club won’t feel safer pulling him out of the match once again.

We’ll have to wait and see, and Arsenal need to complete their victory over Napoli and beat either Valencia or Villarreal to make it to the final first anyway.
