Nelson had to withdraw from England u21 duty after picking up a thigh injury, but it was initially hoped he’d be fit again by the time Hoffenheim played their next game. Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case, and the Arsenal loanee was left out of the squad by Julian Nagelsmann.

Nelson has had a couple of injury concerns in the last couple of months, having had back trouble immediately after the winter break. It’s not helping his quest for consistent senior minutes, which was already tough enough given the winger’s last start came in mid-December.

The 19-year-old also had to deal with disciplinary action after he was late for a training session, which he admitted he was at fault for and apologised.

Despite all that, Nelson is doing well when he gets his opportunities on the pitch. He provided a very nice assist for the u21s over the break, and he’s having an impact in his brief showings for Hoffenheim. Let’s hope he can have a few more of them before the end of the season.
