Arsenal are reportedly still interested in Eric dos Santos Rodrigues.

Back in November, it was claimed that Arsenal had reportedly scouted Brazilian ‘wonderkid’ Ramires six times as the club lined up a January move for the player.

Of course, that didn’t happen, but the links are back now with the Mirror reporting that the midfielder, who is known as Ramires, has been a target since January 2018.

Back then things were very different at Arsenal, however, and all of the people who would have been leading the charge for Ramires have now left. But it is claimed that Raul Sanllehi could help lure the player to London given the integral role he played in getting Neymar to Barcelona.

“Ramires is a boy of great potential, a bright future,” executive director of Ramires’s club, Bahia said. “We are talking with Flamengo and also with other teams.

“There is also the interest from outside the country, representatives of European club teams that back and a half go to the games to observe it.”

Ramires’s contract with the Brazilians runs until 2022 after it was recently extended. He made his debut for the club in September 2018 and was then immediately offered a new deal.

According to Sport Witness, he has been roundly praised since then, especially when it comes to dealing with pressure in big games, although, like Matteo Guendouzi, his sample size of games is small due to his age.

Sport Witness also spoke to his agent who told them, “There is talk of not only Arsenal, but several clubs in Brazil here too, several clubs in Europe, but nothing concrete.”

Known originally as Eric dos Santos Rodrigues, Ramires got his nickname because he, apparently, looks like the Chelsea midfielder.

Atletico Madrid are also said to be interested and, given the UK’s work permit rules, they have to be the favourites.
