Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners against Napoli in the Europa League quarter-final first leg on Thursday night but they should have scored a lot more and killed the tie in this first leg.

So, how did the Italian publication, Gazzetta dello Sport rank the players individually? Well, I think it’s safe to say there are a lot of problems with their ratings…

Petr Cech 6
Sokratis 6
Laurent Koscielny 6.5
Nacho Monreal 5.5

Sead Kolasinac 6.5
Ainsley Maitland-Niles 6.5
Lucas Torreira 7
Aaron Ramsey 7

Mesut Ozil 6
Alexandre Lacazette 6
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 6

Alex Iwobi 6
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 6.5
Mohamed Elneny 6
GdS rankings:
And this is how they rated Napoli’s players:
Yes, you read that right – GdS gave Mesut Ozil, who was sublime, the same rating as Mohamed Elneny who came on for 13 minutes and touched the ball 11 times.
6 is also just one point higher than the majority of the Napoli team, whom Ozil embarrassed all evening, and lower than Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s 6.5 despite him only playing 24 minutes with a pass accuracy almost 10 points lower than the German.
Certainly, the press in large parts of mainland Europe are less generous with their ratings than their English counterparts but you must have rocks for brains if you watched Arsenal against Napoli and then thought it acceptable to give Mesut Ozil and Mohamed Elneny the same rating.
