Earlier this week it was revealed that the German side who are facing relegation from the Bundesliga had agreed a deal to sign Sven Mislintat as their sporting director in something of a footballing ‘coup’.

Now, the 46-year-old has been speaking briefly about taking up the role.

“It is a huge challenge and at the same time a great honour to work for a club like VfB,” Mislintat said.

“I grew up in the environment of traditional clubs, this atmosphere is very important to me. “The talks with Wolfgang Dietrich and Thomas Hitzlsperger were extremely good and decisive for my decision for VfB.

“Our joint focus is in the coming weeks on the fight for survival, of course, we look already on the plans for the new season.”

“Sven Mislintat has built a great reputation in his long career, and with his knowledge, his network and his way of thinking about football, he fits in perfectly with us and I am very pleased that he has decided to Immediately become part of our VfB team,”, said Thomas Hitzlsperger, Stuttgart’s head of sport.

“The good connection between Wolfgang Dietrich and Sven Mislintat has also helped to convince Sven of VfB.

“We all face the big challenge, the here and now, the current sporting situation, to make a positive, to save the league and parallel already planning and building the VfB of tomorrow – we can only do that as a strong team. To build a strong team that bravely and passionately tackles the tasks ahead.”

Writing in an excellent piece about the state of Arsenal, David Hytner explained what happened at Arsenal, writing, “The sense of unease has been swelled by the looming loss of Aaron Ramsey to Juventus as a free agent at the end of the season for reasons that are impossible to disconnect from finance. Then, there is Sven Mislintat, the head of recruitment, who arrived from Borussia Dortmund in November 2017. He has grown so frustrated that he has decided to quit; he is expected to leave after the closure of the January window.”
