Hector Bellerin couldn’t resist a jibe at Tottenham Hotspur’s expense, as he took part in a half-time interview during Arsenal’s victory over Newcastle United.

After bragging for months about being as many as 13 points ahead of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur fans had to watch on last night as the Gunners’ victory took them up into third place and two points clear of their North London rivals.

Thanks to his injury in January, Bellerin was watching the game along with them, but the right-back took the opportunity at half-time to answer a few questions in front of the home crowd. With Arsenal in the lead, they were on course to overtake Mauricio Pochettino’s side, which the defender noted.

“It’s good to be above Tottenham as it stands,” Bellerin said. “They’re always in our shadow! I’m feeling better every day and I can’t wait to be back.”

Tottenham have the chance to overtake Arsenal back on Wednesday, as they face Crystal Palace, but they will have played a game more. In truth, Spurs have a fairly easy fixture list from here until the end of the season, with the Premier League kindly saving a bunch of lower-half home league fixtures for them to finally open their stadium with.

Nonetheless, they still have to play Manchester City away, and whilst Arsenal’s games aren’t quite so easy overall, all of them are winnable if Unai Emery’s side really turn up. The important thing is finishing in the top four, rather than finishing above Spurs, but both would be nice.
