Denis Suarez is struggling with a minor groin injury, with Arsenal confirming the knock on Wednesday after initially keeping the Spaniard out of team news updates.

Denis Suarez’s loan spell with Arsenal hasn’t exactly gone as planned so far. The 25-year-old joined as wide cover for Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was injured when the Spaniard first joined.

By the time Suarez had spent a few weeks adapting, Mkhitaryan was fit and playing well. Not long after that, Unai Emery changed his system, reverting to a formation where wing-backs provide the width instead of wingers.

As a result, Mkhitaryan and Iwobi started getting the opportunities from the bench, and Suarez struggled to make any kind of appearance at all.

Things are only getting worse, as Football.London recently reported that the Spaniard had picked up a minor groin injury. That explained his absence from the squad against Watford, but it’s now been a month since the midfielder made any kind of appearance at all for Arsenal.

The club kept pretty quiet about the knock at first, leaving Suarez out of their team news updates ahead of Watford, but they’ve now confirmed he’ll remain in London for treatment as the rest of the team travel to Italy.
