Earlier this month it was claimed that Arsenal are looking at signing Wesley to replace Danny Welbeck whom some outlets believe will be allowed to leave in the summer.

Welbeck is out of contract in the summer and, while there has been some suggestion the club might offer him a new deal, no offer has been forthcoming as he recovers from his third serious injury since signing for Arsenal from Manchester United.

Speaking recently, Unai Emery said of Welbeck, “He’s progressing very well.

“He is working and starting to touch the ball and to work on the pitch. His progress with such a big injury is going very well. It’s difficult for him to play matches this season but he is progressing very well and maybe the doctor will tell us he can come train with us in the last weeks of this season.

“After, his individual thing is to speak with the club [about his future].”

The S*n, via Calciomercato, claimed that the Gunners are keen on bringing in Club Brugges’ forward, Wesley, a player the club were linked with ahead of the January window and as far back as last summer.

Now, LaLazio are reporting that Arsenal are getting close to making an offer even though it seems to fall short of what Wesley’s club want. They claim their information comes from the Belgian press, although they don’t link or name their source.

A 22-year-old centre-forward, Wesley has 10 goals and nine assists in 28 Jupiler pro games this season with 16 and 10 in 41 across all competitions.

He is under contract until 2023.
