Arsenal are in talks to sign Christopher Nkunku from Paris Saint-Germain after Unai Emery made a personal demand for the club to bring his former player in, according to reports.

The Daily Star report that Unai Emery is in the hunt for an Aaron Ramsey replacement, and he believes Nkunku could be the man for the job. The 21-year-old has split his time between central midfield and the right-hand side this season, but the Arsenal head coach clearly believes the PSG man is best off in the middle.

Nkunku certainly appears to be displaying a desire to move on from the French capital. He has a contract until 2020, but he’s refused to extend, running it down to its final year.

That’s likely in part because he wants more consistent game time, with Thomas Tuchel putting him in and out of the starting eleven all year.

Nkunku’s agent Jose-Karl Pierre-Fanfan confirmed as much, saying: “The playing time is insufficient. Christopher is open to a departure.”

Since the beginning of October, Nkunku hasn’t played more than four league games in a row at any stage. He’s only started 17 matches of their 49 in all competitions this campaign.

Compare that to someone like Matteo Guendouzi, who joined Arsenal as a 19-year-old and is up to 31 starts. You can understand why Nkunku might be tempted to move on. We’ll have to wait and see whether that’s to Arsenal.
