England beat Spain 2-1 on Tuesday night in front of a 13,449 crowd at the County Ground in Swindon.

Mead played the whole match and scored in the 35th minute.

Elsewhere, Kim Little scored the winner as Scotland beat Brazil. Although Brazil dominated the match, Little’s 38th-minute strike was the difference between the sides.

The Netherlands ran out 7-0 winners over Chile in a match that saw Danielle van de Donk net four while Vivianne Miedema scored her 100th Dutch goal (57 senior, 43 youth).

Speaking after the match, DVD said, “We have searched for ‘our’ football for a while. Now we were really ticking, nice and fast. It is wonderful to knock an opponent away. I’m most proud of that. Just a pity that we could not continue in the second half. At the World Cup we will also have to last 90 minutes.”

Miedema, meanwhile, has been on fire for Arsenal this season. As well as leading the WSL goalscoring charts with 20 she is also second in the assists league with nine.

Her goal against Chile was her 57th in 74 senior internationals but, when added to her Dutch youth record of 43 goals, she has now scored 100 for her country.

Vivianne Miedema is 22.

Katie McCabe netted for Ireland after just three minutes but, unfortunately for her, they lost 2-1 away to Italy.
