Raheem Sterling was the clear winner of the FWA’s Footballer of the Year award, picking up 62% of the votes. Behind him was Virgil van Dijk in second place, followed by Sergio Aguero in third. According to the Independent, Harry Kane, Eden Hazard, Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette all received at least one vote.

We don’t know exactly how many votes Lacazette received, nor which members of the Football Writers’ Association voted for him, but it’s good to see the striker getting some recognition for his season nonetheless.

Though he’s dropped off in the last couple of league games, along with the rest of the team, Lacazette has scored and assisted a number of important goals this campaign. In the league alone he has goals or assists against Chelsea, Spurs, Manchester United and Liverpool, and he’s reached double figures for both goals and assists in all competitions.

There was no way the 27-year-old was going to beat the likes of Sterling, Aguero and Van Dijk to the award, given their efforts have their teams pushing for the league title. It’s nice to see an Arsenal player nominated though.
